You get paid for external views (how awesome is that?!). They don't pay for reading time as Medium does it's similar to Vocal except you know exactl what you get paid ;)

PS: I can relate. Diversifying your income streams and channels takes time. I guess you don't have a family yet . If so, DO THE WORK NOW and I'm sure you will reach great thing in life :)
