There is no guideline sharing what your telling us right now. There is no article on Medium or outside (from top tier (tech) media) that share this *limitation* of the referral program. If I'm wrong, would you mind sharing the link?

Several new users tried to become paying members via the app using my link... and they couldn't.

When they clicked the link they came to my profile. They thought it was a bug and then... became members without helping me as a writer.
